FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
2009-2010 Typical Funding Package for PhD Students
Students entering Schulich's PhD program may expect to receive $22,000 in the first year. This amount is renewable in years two through four, provided that the student maintains full-time status and demonstrates satisfactory progress in the program. If a student defends his/her dissertation proposal before September 15 in his/her fourth year, he/she is eligible to receive an additional $2000 in year four. Funding in years one through three is tied to a research assistantship. Details are available from the PhD program.
A conference travel fund is also available to students, who are presenting a paper in a peer-reviewed conference or in a PhD consortium. The amount is up to $1000 per year. Details are available from the PhD program. Click here for an application form.
In addition, a limited number of international tuition scholarships for international students may be available in years one through four. This funding will be applied directly to tuition fees.
The financial package does not include a tuition waiver.
If you come to Canada as an international student you will need a “student permit”. This visa means that you cannot take paid employment in Canada except for work on campus such as a research assistant or a teaching assistant. Applicants should review the cost of study and the opportunities for student support.
